The world won't stop if you don't read this book. However, it is actually a good read with interesting author commentary on rural values versus big city and environmental politics. Throw in some random local history and mix in some racial intolerance with a tribal perspective woven into it and you actually end up with an interesting twist on an old "boy meets girl" story line. It is especially fun when you live in the area and can identify most of the real world figures being lampooned in this fictional account. Tongue and cheek have left the building folks. Definitely recommend if you can find a copy... it sits on my coffee table with several other local color books for out of town guests to peruse.

As a side note - I'm writing this review after the dams on the Elwha have been removed and sitting on the new bridge that was installed near the Elwha Hatchery.... the river now looks like very thin cement as it washes down all the glacial sediments that have been trapped behind them for years. I pray this river system actually recovers from the damn dam removal actions that have been taking place the last few years. I do have hope that recovery will actually occur after watching the relatively quick (5-10 years) recovery of the rivers devastated during the Mount Saint Helens eruption. =)
